Excellence In Broadcasting/Class Of 2019

Les LevineLes Levine, Cleveland sportswriter and Broadcaster, whose career spanned 50 years, passed away after battling diabetes and Parkinsons disease..

Les grew up in Cleveland and attended The Ohio State University, and graduated with a Poly Science degree and was a certified elementary school teacher--but talking sports was his passion so he attended broadcast school.

Levine entered his sports career in 1970 after a brief stint in Jasper, Indiana. He broadcast over 2,500 sporting events, including writing a number of columns for a number of publicatiosn. Levine’s smart, thoughtful commentary graced the radio waves and television for decades. He's known for countless shows, including “more sports & Les Levine and Sportschannel & Les Levine. Levine hosted pre and post game shows for the Indians, Cavs and Browns and also included the Cleveland Crusaders.

Levine was also credited with revolutionizing media. His was the first to invite the audience to call in live on the air . Levine was a columnist for the News Herald and the Cleveland Jewish News.

Levine is a Radio and Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame of Ohio inductee and was honored by the Cleveland Association of Broadcaster. But the people lucky enough to work with Les, he became known as a genuinely nice person.
